Moore's Hill Lilacs to Close September 1;
New Lilac Business Opening in Canton
Moore's Hill Lilacs in West Potsdam will close September 1, according to owners Cliff and Janice Westerling. After 11 years of operating the lilac nursery as a part-time retirement business, we are planning to go to full-time retirement mode.
The Westerlings offer thanks to their customers. " It was a joy to meet so many people, and hear so many stories of their memories related to lilacs".. Approximately 4,000 lilac plants from Moore's Hill now grace landscapes throughout the North Country and beyond.
Sales of remaining stock at Moore's Hill lilacs will continue through September 1, by appointment only. About 20 varieties remain available for purchase in limited quantities and sizes.
Meanwhile, plans are underway for a new lilac business opening in Canton. In cooperation with the Westerlings, Rebecca and Wil Rivers will be opening North Country Lilacs at their Miner Street Road farm in the spring of 2024. “The Westerlings have provided such a valuable service to our community over the years, and we are excited to continue that," they said. Additional details about the new business will be forthcoming.
